V2 Playtest Overview (cont.)

In our playtests this evening, we discovered that our tanks are just too powerful. Every single playtest I have been a part of has ended up with both of my tanks being my last two units on the board. They have proven to be too slow and too hard to land attacks with to stay the way they are. We discussed some ideas about how to deal with the tanks, and the conclusion we reached was to take away 5 health and give +1 speed to the tanks, leaving them with the base stats of:

  • ATK: 2
  • DEF: 4
  • SPD: 3
  • Range: 1
  • HP: 25
Whether this works, if we need to make further edits, and/or if we should scrap the tank class altogether and come up with a new class will inevitably come out in the next playtest. Hopefully, this will also cut down on kiting, which was also an issue that came up in the last playtest.

Kiting with tanks, of course.
Against a general with 3 speed and 3 range, of course.

It didn't really come up in the previous playtests because that wasn't a strategy that any of my opponents chose to use, but it is very much a thing that we are addressing. I believe that making the tanks/3rd class with a speed of more than just 2 spaces will cut down on that a lot.

And on another note, the Vermin of the Wasteland faction are a constant work in progress. I've retooled Envenomed, the general's proximity ability so that it now reads "Every turn, pick an ally within 3 spaces of Envenomed, and give them +2 health." I did this because the previous version of his ability wound up being useless, because he mostly stayed back and out of the fray for most of the battle and when he finally did enter battle, there was maybe 1 or 2 units within the 3-square radius that would have been able to make use of it anyway. I feel that this new version of his proximity abiility will prove far more useful. Ultimately, we will see in playtesting.
